Instead of wasting a lot of space inside the van, I would have tried to create some shower option to be used outside the van. But maybe that would be even more complicated and less comfortable ?

Anytime you can take a personal shower on vacation is an added plus. The weight of water can questable with the cost of gas. A case of recycled sports bottles filled with water will work for me . A shower is very refreshing on the road.
